How many poor people must one give Matanot LaEvyonim to?

One must give gifts to at least two poor people in order to properly fulfill the mitzvah of the holiday.

Can the mitzvah be fulfilled by giving food?

✅ Yes, the mitzvah of Matanot LaEvyonim can also be fulfilled by giving food.

❌ However, it cannot be fulfilled by giving other types of gifts.

What is the required amount to give?

📜 Halachic sources present different opinions regarding the exact amount that must be given for Matanot LaEvyonim:

1️⃣ Opinion 1: According to the strict letter of the law, giving the value of a perutah (a small coin) is sufficient.

2️⃣ Opinion 2: One must give an amount of money that allows the poor person to buy a meal and be satisfied.

📌 The common custom is that each person gives according to their ability in order to bring joy to the poor, as Maimonides (Rambam) writes:

“It is better for a person to be generous in giving Matanot LaEvyonim than in increasing his feast.”

According to Rambam’s words, it is preferable to invest more in Matanot LaEvyonim than in the other mitzvot of the day, such as the Purim feast and Mishloach Manot.

 Are women also obligated in this mitzvah?

Yes, women also participate in the mitzvah of giving Matanot LaEvyonim to two poor people on Purim.

 Is the donation made through the website distributed to the poor on the same day?

✅ Yes, we distribute Matanot LaEvyonim to the poor on Purim day (14th of Adar), ensuring that you fulfill the mitzvah in the most proper way.

 What is the best time on Purim to give Matanot LaEvyonim?

🌞 It is preferable to give the gifts during the day rather than at night, as the Megillah states:

“to make them days of feasting and joy.”

Can Ma’aser Kesafim (tithing funds) be used for this mitzvah?

❌ The mandatory amount required to fulfill the mitzvah cannot be taken from Ma’aser Kesafim.

✅ However, any additional amount given beyond the obligation may be counted as Ma’aser Kesafim.

 Can the mitzvah be fulfilled through a credit card donation?
